Road to Success : Before and After

Road to Success

Growing up I was always overweight. I was picked on, kept out of groups, and ignored because of my condition. Since me and my mom did not have extra money to be cooking, and we were so busy that fast food was the simplest thing to get. Although I did enjoy getting to go to Taco Bell and hanging out with my mother during a sick day off from school, it caused me to slowly gain weight. Eating 2 huge burritos and a few tacos is definitely not healthy for a growing boy. It was obvious that I had an extremely slow metabolism. Even though I played baseball for nine years, basketball for 3, and activities mostly everyday, the weight still caught on. I was 4 ft 11 in with twenty extra pounds. I was eventually getting close to gaining twice my "extra pounds". One day when I was returning home I felt my stomach shaking, and I could sadly feel every bad eating choice I had made throughout my life. This was the day I said no more because it was definitely leading to something bigger, and possibly more dangerous. When I turned eleven my mother let me go off to a camp called Camp Burgess. This camp has everything from archery to zip lining. It was the greatest experience in my life other than meeting my baby sister for the first time. During the first few weeks I noticed that I became faster, and thinner. I also learned how to swim, which gave me confidence. Participating in every event caused my body to start burning calories like crazy. Without all the fast food in my system, my body could breath, and get stronger. After One month I went home, and noticed 25 pounds had dropped off of me. It was awesome! When I moved to Norfolk, I started running cross country. I kept up the running and going to camp every year. When I moved again, I participated in cross country all the way into high school. During those camp years I gained so much muscle, and kept losing fat. Now I tell my story in my blog, hoping to help anyone who would like to stay healthy and fit. Having 2-5 percent of body fat is definitely an awesome upside of staying healthy. Almost everyday I watch Dr. Oz, and read fitness articles online. Reading about vitamins, and natural healers has shown me how to take care of myself. I also enjoy showing my family healthy recipes, and showing them new ways to stay healthy.
